The dodo is perhaps the most imaginative extinct bird. First described in the late 16th century and last seen less than 100 years later, the dodo was found in Mauritius and became known as the bird that forgot how to fly. Supposedly, a live dodo was even brought to Amsterdam at one point! The dodo's popularity has received a new boost in recent years since his entry as a creature in Minecraft. The walghvogel, as Dutch explorers initially called the bird, has also previously played guest roles in Alice in Wonderland and Harry Potter.
